Help us raise as much money as we can for Help for Heroes.

Letter details:

I am writing to inform you of an event we are going to undertake at Sir William Robertson Academy on 12th July 2018.  The event is open to all students and will be a test of their physical and mental resilience. Similar to the very successful “Mudathon” event which we hosted last year and raised over £11,000, we are looking to set up a unique obstacle course with a twist which will put our pupils to the test.  We hope that such an event will take our pupils out of their natural comfort zones and enhance their energy and vitality, improve teamwork and decision making and help them deal with potential stressful situations in the future.  We hope pupils after the event will have a greater understanding for the need to exert themselves to their maximum at all times.

We are going to raise money for Help for Heroes. Colour runners’ donations go to fund projects that directly help our wounded, injured and sick to recover and return to the Forces or transition to civilian life. Every case is considered on the basis of need, whether they are serving or veterans. And it’s not just for the short term. Help for Heroes gives support for life. Different charitable events have raised over £1,000,000 for Help for Heroes, whose mission is to deliver an enduring national network of support for wounded servicemen and women and their families.

It will be a colourful obstacle course that any ability can climb over, crawl under and charge through showing all that SWRA pupils have fury and resilience. Students will be required to wear old trainers and very old clothes (shorts / white or colourful t-shirt) which they can move freely in. There is a risk that clothes may be stained or damaged during the event. Within the obstacle course there will be a mixed amount of challenges to push you to your limits: “The Log Roll”, “Sewer Rat Crawl”, “The Gauntlet”, “Tyre Lift”, “Rope Hang”, “Ski Walk”, “Knockdown”, “Dunk Dive”, “Slideaway”, “Rain Man”, “Hosedown”, “Pole Climb”, “Leap of Faith”, “Ditch Walk”, “Bag Drag”, Billy Can Lift”, “Cargo Crawl” and the Tarp Slide!

We are hoping to run this as an annual event and monies generated will go towards the support of “Help for Heroes.”  Please find enclosed a sponsorship form which should be brought into school on the day of the event.  There will be a “Sponsorship hand in desk” on the day where all forms and money can be dropped off.   The top 5 money raisers will be awarded an “ASPIRE” badge, a H4H award and later in the year a “Sports Ambassador” badge for their achievements.  I hope you agree that the monies raised will go to a good cause and that our students will also benefit from some challenges that will develop their spirit and resilience.

The event will take place on Thursday 12th July (Y7 P2 / Y8 P3 / Y10 & Y12 P4 / Y9 P5)

Please note that by your child taking part in the “colour run” event there are likely to be some risks involved with undertaking these types of activities. Please be assured that the PE staff at SWRA have risk assessed all the activities and will be supervising the events during the day. Please inform school directly if there are any medical conditions which might restrict your child from undertaking any activities or you would rather your child did not take part in the event. We look forward to having your child for the colour run event and also generating some funds for the “Help for Heroes” charity.

Many thanks

Mr S Grant (Deputy Headteacher)   Mr K Symmons (Head of PE)    Miss S Holder (Teacher of Girls’ PE)
