The ICT Department at Sir William Robertson Academy aims to provide the high quality teaching and learning ensuring students are prepared for the rigours of technological life in the 21st century. ICT lessons are well organised guaranteeing the effective delivery of the National Curriculum throughout KS3, KS4 and KS5.
The department seeks to provide a positive learning environment that enables pupils to become confident independent learners while encouraging positive working methods in ICT.
Key Stage 3 (KS3) Information
At KS3 all pupils have one lesson per week of discreet ICT in which we expect all pupils to achieve excellent progression against their entry level to KS3. This work is teacher assessed, based upon a portfolio of evidence produced within their lessons. In Year 9, all students commence a Level 2 qualification in ICT (currently Cambridge National) which is completed in Year 10 of KS4.
Key Stage 4 (KS4) Information
At KS4, all pupils in Year 10 have one lesson per week of discreet ICT in which we expect all students to achieve Level 2 National qualification in ICT (currently Cambridge National). This course is assessed by coursework and a controlled assignment.
Those students who wish to further develop within the ICT sphere can opt for the following subjects which they will complete during KS4.
GCSE Computer Science
Key Stage 5 (KS5) Information
At KS5, all students have the option to study AS and A Level AQA Business and Edexcel Applied AS and A Level ICT. Business Studies course consists of four units which are assessed by examination at the end of each unit. During Year 12, students complete the first two units which lead to an AS award before completing the second two in Year 13 where the A Level is awarded for successful completion. ICT is assessed by two pieces of coursework and one exam each year.
