24th May – 27th May 2019 Trip to Berlin, Germany  Berlin Trip summer 2015

Following the success of our previous visits, we are pleased to offer once again our cross curricular trip to Berlin in May 2019, pending governors’ approval.  The trip is open to pupils in Year 9, 10 and 12 pupils wishing to or currently studying History at GCSE and A Level. The visit will last 4 days from the morning of Friday 24th May until Monday 27th May 2019 with 3 nights spent in Berlin.   The aims of the trip are as follows:-

  • To strengthen pupils’ knowledge of the Weimar Republic
  • The Third Reich and The Final Solution
  • To understand German culture & to place it within an historical context

We will be travelling by coach to Heathrow airport and then flying to Berlin.  We will be departing from school on the morning of 24th May and returning to school on the evening of 27th May.  We will have the use of a local coach company during our stay in Berlin and the experience of a fantastic local tour guide accompanying us at various points on our itinerary.   The group will stay in a modern 3 star hotel in the centre of Berlin and the trip is offered on a half board basis.  Breakfast and evening meals will be taken in the hotel, however students will need some euros to buy lunch in Berlin.  The proposed activities have been specifically planned to extend and enhance pupils’ knowledge and understanding of the GCSE history curriculum and to give pupils the opportunity to extend their horizons overseas, whilst also practising the German language.

The following itinerary is proposed:-

  • Services of an NST Educationalist Guide   Berlin Wall3
  • Visit to Brandenburg Gate
  • Visit to the Olympic Stadium
  • Visit to Berlin Wall Memorial
  • Visit to Holocaust Memorial
  • Visit to Sachsenhausen
  • Entrance to Wallmuseum-Haus at Checkpoint Charlie
  • Visit to German Resistance Memorial Centre
  • Visit to the German Parliament

The cost of the visit will be £675 per pupil, based on at least 40 participants.  This price is liable to change where we do not receive 40 participants.  Included in the cost is all travel, bed and breakfast accommodation in Berlin for 3 nights, travel insurance and all visits and activities.  Pupils need their own passport and will need to obtain a European Health Card (EHIC) to travel with us.
