Winter Weather – Procedures

Posted by Suzanne Alexander

As the weather reports are now starting to mention the possibility of snow showers I thought it would be timely to remind parents of our procedures in the event of heavy snowfall.snowman

The school will endeavour to remain open as usual during any adverse weather conditions. Any decision to close the school will be communicated immediately through the school’s website, via BBC Radio Lincolnshire (94.9 and 104.7FM) and Lincs FM (102.2FM). Please try to avoid telephoning the school to see if we are open, as the high volume of calls is extremely difficult to manage at the start of the day.

If we hold your mobile phone details, we shall aim to use our text messaging service if the school is forced to close – either partially (for certain year groups) or fully. If you have recently changed your mobile phone number, we should be grateful if you could send us updated details and we shall amend our records accordingly.

As nearly all of our pupils travel to and from school by bus we have to rely on the individual bus companies making a judgment on the safety of individual routes. Since conditions may be very different in one part of our catchment to another, we rely on the bus operators making a health and safety judgement on the basis of local conditions. If parents can arrange alternative transport to get their children to school if their bus service is unable to operate, this would be greatly appreciated, but health and safety issues must be considered and given due priority by all concerned.

We would also particularly ask parents and carers to encourage their children to wrap-up warm on snowy or icy mornings as school buses are more likely to be delayed if the rural roads on some of our bus routes are un-gritted.

While we shall aim to operate normally during any cold spell, our priority remains the safety and welfare of the pupils at the school. In the event of heavy snowfall we shall try to provide regular updates for families through the school website, text messages and through our Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Thank you for your on-going support.

Yours sincerely,

M.A. Guest, Headteacher
