Sir William Robertson Academy celebrated the wonderful world of reading with a belated World Book Day fundraiser raising £602 for Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance in memory of Daniel Harris and the #dab4Daniel online campaign.  Students and staff dressed as their favourite book characters or came dressed in blue, Daniel’s favourite colour.  Activities during the day included reading sections of the short story ‘The Egg’ by Andy Weir at the beginning of each lesson and a fun quiz where pupils had to guess the teacher reading the book at home.

Mrs Christina Mower, Head of Lancer House who suggested that World Book Day be a fundraiser in memory of Daniel dressed as Mr Bump, Daniel favourite book character! The Art department were dressed as characters from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.  The English department very much entered into the spirit of the day with characters including the Fox from Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl, a Handmaid from Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Attwood, Gangsta Granny from David Walliams same titled book, J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter, a black hole from A Brief History of Time, Prof Stephen Hawking in special memory, Tweedledumb and Tweedledee from Alice in Wonderland and Phil from the play DNA. Other staff and pupils dressed as Bert from P.L. Travers Mary Poppins, The Big Bad Wolf by James Patterson, Miss Clavell from Ludwig Bemelman’s Madeline.  The Catering Team joined in the fun too with some fantastic outfits with a literary theme including the scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz, Princess Fiona from Shrek, the Cheshire Cat, Alice and the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland!

The whole school did a #dab in memory of Daniel Harris earlier in the year during a fire drill which was filmed by the school drone. Today the students and staff ‘dabbed’ at a photocall at lunchtime. Prizes were awarded to the best dressed pupils and staff by Miss Nicole Oldfield, Lead Practitioner in English who helped organise the day.
