smscSocial, Moral, Spiritual & Cultural Development

Parents, teachers, government, inspectors and children all agree that school is about far more than learning the curriculum.  Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development is the term used to embrace this broader dimension.  It ranges from teaching in RE and citizenship through to sex and relationship education and a wide range of extra-curricular and out-of-school activities.  Importantly these vital dimensions of life and growth should be present across the entire curriculum.  At SWRA we take SMSC very seriously and have a thoughtful and wide-ranging promotion of it within the school.

The school uses an online SMSC grid maker programme to effectively track the SMSC provision across the school.jigsaw pieces

In addition to the focus on SMSC, SWRA actively promotes the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

Examples of the British Values and SMSC displays around the school can be seen below.
